Exploring the other languages in the K2 day

In Reggio Emilia they talk about a child having lots of different languages to express themselves. This blog often explores what the children are doing in the classroom expressing themselves through reading, writing, maths and art. But there are other ways to express yourself such as Music or even in Chinese. So this week I got to check out what is happening in the Music room and it was a lot of fun! You had a snap shot of the lively songs that Ms Luiza teaches at Christmas and she has many more up her sleeve. Each session starts with one of these songs or even two.

Getting ready to move and groove.
Then they switch to instruments and finding the beat. The drums come in all sorts of shapes so helps us to revise our shape names too!
Let's keep the beat.

Following this the children did more movement and music, creating musical statues with their drums. It was hard to keep thinking of different positions and the children managed it better than me.
To round of the lesson there were more singing games.

Phew what a lively session.
Chinese is linked to our Unit of Study and the children have been busy learning animal names.

This is Ding Rui's summary of what the children have been learning:
We are currently working on Unit 5 Going to the Zoo In K2 Chinese as a Foreign Language class.
The children are learning the Zoo animal’s names and the key sentences such as what are in the zoo? What is this? What is that? Have you ever been to the Zoo? What did you see in the Zoo? The children are also making their own story book.
Children are learning through variety activities such as singing, games, handcraft, story telling, drama, technology etc.

The children may have mentioned that we are lucky to have a visitor in our class. Her name is Nicole Triffet and she is training to be a teacher.

Hello Kindergarten students and Parents,
My name is Mrs Nicole Triffet and I am a fourth year student at Murdoch University in Perth Australia, studying a Bachelor of education in Early Childhood and Primary Teaching. I will be completing professional experience in the classroom for the next few weeks and look forward to meeting many of you.

I am a mother of two children, a boy who is 5 years old and a girl who is 3 years old. I come from Perth but have lived in Singapore for the last 4 years.

Some of my interests include reading, drawing, learning and using technology.

I hope we have lots of fun together.
