UWC Day: The Cardboard Challenge!

No doubt you have now heard all about UWC Day and the 'Cardboard Challenge.' The children worked so hard on their creations and are still having fun with them.

The idea for the challenge originated from 'Caine's Arcade' video. A young boy created a whole arcade out of boxes. But he didn't stop there he made tickets, created fun passes and continued to build and work on his idea. 'Caines Arcade' caught the imagination of a passerby who made a film about it. The film became an online sensation and has now created a whole movement called 'The Imagination Foundation.'  If you would like to take a look at the Foundation and the video for Caine's Arcade please click on the link.

To introduce the challenge we watched a short animation from the book called 'It's not a box' by Antoinette Portis. This got the children thinking about all the creative possibilities that were hidden in a cardboard box.

Then when the Round Square helpers came along we watched 'Caine's Arcade'. Next it was all up to the children. They planned, built, painted and finally made great structures that are now being used in Discovery Time.

Below is a short video of the day.

Thank you for helping make the day successful by collecting boxes.
The Head of Grade, Mrs Webster, has added more K2 information on her blog which can be found by clicking on K2 Information.

Enjoy the break.
