The Community!

Welcome back! Everyone seemed to have a great holiday and has settled right back into school. The children have adapted to the new classroom and enjoyed meeting some new Grade 4 friends...
.
...and catching up with some old K2 friends!

The big question this week has been, what is a community? We have started our new Unit of Study 'Me and My School'. Before we narrowed it down to thinking about the school though we thought about the communities that we belong to. Nakul got the conversation started by identifying our class as one community because it is a group.  This snowballed the conversation and soon we identified all sorts of groups we belonged to such as, our family, school, basketball, swimming.

Then we thought why we need to get to know our school community well. We thought about getting lost and how it feels to not know your way around. Words like scared, sad, worried and frightened were used. So we spent the rest of the week getting to know the school better. We went on a photo walk and we sketched part of the school and labelled the parts we knew.

Next week we will be doing more investigating and maybe even some building.

Please click on the K2 information link as Mrs Webster has added important K2 news. Thank you to the families who have indicated whether they are joining us for the Chinese afternoon tea. If you have not yet replied please do so.

And a gentle reminder that we have swimming on Tuesday and Thursday from next week.

Have a great weekend,
Zoe

  1. It was lovely to see "the big kids" take our K2 students under their wings this week. Thank you Zoe and Hong Eng for creating such a warm and welcoming classroom environment which allowed for a smooth transition.
