When I'm done, I've just begun!

Writing Workshop has been feeling neglected over the past couple of weeks as Reading Workshop has got a mention in the last two blogs. So this week I thought I would give writing its turn.
We decided that if we can be Superhero readers we can be Superhero writers too. Superhero writers spend the first part of the lesson listening to the teacher who gives a 'mini lesson'. The 'mini lessons' shows writers how they can improve their writing.
Learning in a mini lesson.

Then the children get a chance to practise or think about the skill and how they can use it in their own books.
After this they head off to their tables and begin writing. The teacher goes around and confers with children...or as I call it get a chance to be nosy... and find out about what they are writing and teach a new skill that could help their writing become even better.
Being an independent writer.

Conferring

If the children feel like they have finished a book they have to be very responsible and think 'when I'm done, I've just begun.' They look at the chart and think about what they can do next.

After this they spend time sharing and celebrating each others books.
Sharing

On another note, we have finished our block of swimming so the children no longer need to bring swimming kit on Thursdays.

Thank you and enjoy your weekend,
Zoe
